ASTM D6459-19 Rainfall Simulator for Rolled Erosion Control Products (RECP)

Soil erosion caused by rainfall is a critical challenge in civil engineering, highway construction, and landscaping. To evaluate the effectiveness of erosion control materials, the ASTM D6459-19 standard provides a rigorous, full-scale testing method: the “Standard Test Method for Determination of Rolled Erosion Control Product (RECP) Performance in Protecting Hillslopes from Rainfall-Induced Erosion.”

Our custom-engineered ASTM D6459-19 Rainfall Simulator is designed to precisely recreate natural rainfall conditions. It allows geotechnical laboratories, construction contractors, and material manufacturers to accurately evaluate how well their products absorb raindrop impact forces and slow overland runoff. What Products Are Tested? Our advanced rainfall simulator system is specifically engineered to test and validate a wide spectrum of Rolled Erosion Control Products (RECPs). In modern civil engineering, evaluating these materials is crucial for preventing severe soil loss on construction sites. The system is primarily used to test the two main categories of RECPs:

Erosion Control Blankets (ECB) are temporary, degradable materials composed primarily of processed natural organic materials (such as straw, coconut coir, or wood excelsior). They are manufactured into rolls and designed to provide immediate, short-term protection against raindrop impact and overland flow.  1. Erosion Control Blankets (ECB)
By shielding the bare soil and retaining moisture, ECBs assist in the rapid growth, establishment, and protection of natural vegetation. Once the plant roots are fully developed and take over the erosion control function, the blanket naturally degrades into the environment.
Unlike temporary blankets, Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRM) are robust, non-degradable geosynthetics or geocomposites engineered for permanent erosion protection. They are processed into a strong, three-dimensional matrix designed to significantly increase the stability threshold of vegetated slopes.  2. Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRM)
TRMs are typically deployed in high-stress environments like steep hillslopes or high-flow channels. By permanently interlocking with the root systems of the mature vegetation, TRMs create a reinforced biological shield capable of withstanding severe rainfall-induced erosion over the long term.

When setting up an ASTM D6459-19 testing facility, shipping massive, heavy soil structures or basic structural frames internationally from China is highly cost-prohibitive due to expensive sea freight. To help you maximize your project budget and streamline the entire facility setup process, we provide a smart, split-scope solution. This hybrid approach leverages the cost-effectiveness of your local contractors for heavy earthworks, while supplying you with our premium, export-ready mechanical system-delivering the most cost-effective ASTM D6459 testing lab possible.

Building the 12 m (40 ft) long, 3H:1V earthen test plot is a straightforward civil engineering task. It is most cost-effective to hire your local earthwork contractors or builders to construct this basic soil structure on-site. This eliminates the unnecessary international shipping costs associated with heavy, low-tech materials. Your Local Scope: The Earthen Embankment
We focus strictly on what we do best: Manufacturing and exporting the complex, high-value electromechanical core of the rainfall simulator. Our ASTM D6459-19 equipment features a highly optimized, modular design perfect for global export: Our Scope: High-Precision, Modular Simulator Hardware
The 4.3m (14 ft) tall risers, cross-pipes, and stainless-steel collection panels are engineered to be easily disassembled. They pack neatly into compact, standard wooden crates, significantly reducing your LCL (Less than Container Load) shipping costs. The Compact Sea Freight:
Once the hardware arrives at your site, Your team can easily reassemble the sprinkler network and connect it to our integrated Water Supply & Pressure Control Cabinet. Plug-and-Play Assembly:
Despite its modularity, the ASTM D6459-19 rainfall simulator guarantees the strict 4.3m fall height and precise raindrop size distribution mandated by the ASTM standard. Uncompromised Accuracy:

Unlike standard industrial rain test chambers, the ASTM D6459-19 methodology requires a large-scale, open-air simulation system. Wewon Environmental Chambers Co., Ltd. supply the complete, high-precision hardware array, allowing you to easily construct the 12 m (40 ft) soil test plot locally, significantly saving on international shipping and infrastructure costs.

To accurately approximate the kinetic energy of natural rainfall, our sprinkler risers are strictly designed to position the sprinkler heads at a minimum fall height of 4.3 meters (14 feet). Each riser is equipped with specialized sprinkler heads, precision flow control valves, and pressure gauges to ensure a uniform operating pressure across the entire test plot. 1. High-Precision Sprinkler Network & Fall Height
The standard demands strict control over water droplets. Our carefully selected and calibrated sprinkler heads guarantee an accurate drop size distribution that models natural rain: no more than 10% of the droplets are greater than 6 mm, and no more than 10% are smaller than 1 mm. 2. Accurate Raindrop Size Distribution
The “brain” of the rainfall simulator. We provide an integrated control cabinet featuring high-performance water pumps, frequency converters, and stabilization valves. This ensures you can easily achieve the sequential target rainfall intensities required by the standard: 5.1, 10.2, and 15.2 cm/hr (2, 4, and 6 in/hr). 3. Integrated Water Supply & Pressure Control Cabinet
We supply modular, stainless-steel flashing (collection aprons) and heavy-duty, foldable collection holding tanks. These components are designed to capture all water runoff and sediment yield from the bottom edge of your test plot for accurate post-test weighing and moisture analysis. 4. Runoff and Sediment Collection Hardware
