Daily Maintenance Checklist for Thermal Shock Testing Chambers

Phase 2 | Wewon Technical Support Series

Daily Maintenance Checklist for Thermal Shock Testing Chambers

Thermal shock testing chambers are subjected to extreme mechanical and thermal stress on a daily basis. By rapidly transitioning between ultra-high heat and deep freezing temperatures, these machines push testing samples to their absolute limits. Establishing a strict daily maintenance routine is non-negotiable to ensure consistent laboratory compliance and precise testing data.

At Wewon Environmental Chambers Co., Ltd., our engineering team has developed this streamlined daily checklist to help laboratory technicians protect their investment. These tasks should be performed immediately after the conclusion of your daily testing cycles, or at the end of every working day. By dedicating just a few minutes to this routine, you can drastically reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns, prevent frost accumulation, and extend the overall lifespan of your premium thermal shock equipment.

Component / Area Daily Maintenance Standards & Actions
🧽 1. Test Area & Transfer Basket
Wait until the chamber interior has completely returned to standard room temperature. Wipe the internal surfaces and the transfer basket using a clean, soft, or dust-free cloth. Carefully remove any sample debris, oil stains, or residual condensation.

Strict Prohibition: Never use strong acids, strong alkalis, or chlorine-based cleaners, as these will permanently corrode the premium stainless steel inner walls.
🚪 2. Chamber Door Seals
Inspect the silicone sealing strips in both the high-temperature and low-temperature zones. Ensure they are completely clean, with no visible cracks or structural deformation. Wipe them gently with a dry cloth (use a neutral detergent if oil stains are present).

The A4 Paper Test: Close the chamber door with a piece of A4 paper trapped in the seal. If you can easily pull the paper out, the sealing is compromised and requires immediate adjustment or replacement.
💧 3. Condensation Drainage System
Verify that the condensate drainage pipe is completely unobstructed. Inspect the entire length of the external hose to ensure there are no sharp bends, kinks, or blockages that could cause water to back up into the testing area during defrost cycles.
🌬️ 4. Surrounding Environment
Inspect the perimeter of the machinery. Ensure that all external heat dissipation vents and cooling fans are completely unblocked. We strongly recommend maintaining a clearance space of at least 50 cm (20 inches) around the entire equipment to guarantee optimal airflow and prevent compressor overheating.

Executing these four straightforward steps forms the foundation of excellent laboratory management. For instance, failing to clear the condensate drainage pipe can lead to severe ice blockages during the next sub-zero testing cycle, while compromised door seals will allow ambient moisture to infiltrate the chamber, heavily overworking the refrigeration compressor. A clean, well-ventilated, and tightly sealed thermal shock chamber guarantees that your cyclic thermal data remains perfectly accurate.

If your equipment fails the A4 paper seal test, or if you notice persistent blockages in the drainage system that cannot be resolved through basic cleaning, please halt testing operations. Wewon’s dedicated technical support team is always available to assist you with genuine replacement silicone seals, advanced troubleshooting, and calibration support to ensure your testing laboratory remains fully operational.
