Monthly Maintenance: Thermal Shock Chamber Transfer Basket Lubrication

Phase 4 | Wewon Technical Support Series

Monthly Maintenance: Thermal Shock Chamber Basket Lubrication & Electronics

While daily and weekly checks keep the surface and cooling airways clear, the monthly maintenance protocol delves into the true mechanical and electrical heart of your thermal shock chamber. The two-zone or three-zone transfer basket bears the brunt of the kinetic load, moving testing samples between extreme temperature environments. Simultaneously, the electrical control cabinet handles high-voltage power distribution. A dedicated monthly inspection of these systems prevents catastrophic mechanical jamming and hazardous electrical short circuits.

At Wewon Environmental Chambers Co., Ltd., we categorize monthly maintenance as a “Critical Action Level” for laboratory operators. Overlooking the lubrication of the transfer basket mechanism is the single most common cause of test interruptions. Because these moving parts operate in ultra-low temperatures (often dropping below -55°C), standard mechanical lubricants simply will not work – they will freeze, solidify, and eventually fracture the driving components.

Please strictly follow the detailed three-step monthly procedure below to secure the mechanical fluid dynamics and electrical safety of your thermal shock testing equipment.

Component / Area Monthly Maintenance Standards & Actions
⚙️ 1. Basket Lifting Mechanism Lubrication
(CRUCIAL STEP)
Inspect the lifting guide rails, pulleys, chains, or synchronous timing belts connected to the transfer basket. Apply an appropriate amount of specialized high and low-temperature resistant grease (such as lithium-based grease or perfluoropolyether grease) to ensure the basket lifts smoothly without any jamming or abnormal noise.

Strict Warning: NEVER use ordinary mechanical butter or standard industrial grease! These standard lubricants will freeze and solidify at extremely low temperatures, causing the entire transfer mechanism to lock up and break.
⚡ 2. Electrical Control Cabinet Dusting
After strictly disconnecting the main power supply, carefully open the main electrical control cabinet.

Action: Use completely dry compressed air or an industrial vacuum cleaner to clear out any internal dust accumulation. Eliminating dust prevents highly conductive particles from causing short circuits across the PCB boards, contactors, and relays.
🔧 3. Wiring Terminal Fastening Check
Industrial vibrations generated by the compressors can gradually loosen electrical connections over months of continuous operation.

Action: Use a properly insulated screwdriver to check all main wiring terminals to ensure they are securely tightened. Pay special and immediate attention to the heavy-load compressor power terminals. Loose terminals cause high-resistance heating and can lead to dangerous electrical arcing.

A frozen or jammed transfer basket not only ruins the specific test sequence you are running, but it can also severely overload and damage the pneumatic drive cylinders. Furthermore, neglecting to tighten loose compressor terminals can lead to high-current arcing, which creates a serious fire hazard and can burn out the refrigeration system entirely. By treating these monthly lubrication and electrical tightening tasks as mandatory laboratory protocols, you guarantee that your thermal shock chamber operates reliably and precisely.

If you are unsure which specific low-temperature lithium grease is compatible with your Wewon WE-TST series chamber, or if you identify a burnt electrical terminal during your cabinet inspection, please halt operations and contact the Wewon tech support engineering team for immediate guidance and genuine replacement components.
